Veteran Midfielder Tiwa Saves The Day For Ba

- ARISHMA DEVI-NARAYAN arishma.narayan@fijisun.

Stylish Ba football midfielder, Malakai Tiwa saved their day when he scored the winner as they beat Nadroga 2-1 at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka yesterday. In a crucial Vodafone Premier League clash, Ba bounced back into contention for the two top spots and a chance to qualify to the OLeague.

What happened: Ba meant business from the start and scored their first goal in the seventh minute through Vodafone Fijian Olympian striker Samuela Nabenia. Halftime: Ba 1-0 Nadroga In the second half, Nadroga’s Sakenasa Rakaria equalised in the 75th minute and brought hope to their fans. But Ba upped their tempo and in the 90th minute, Tiwa managed to slot in the winning goal as the Nadroga goalkeeper was caught napping. The young Nadroga players did their best in trying to level the scores during injury time but superb goalkeeping from Ba goalkeeper Misiwane Nairube foiled all their attempts. Nadroga now have to beat Suva at home tommorrow night if they are to avoid the promotion/relegation. The Gurjit Singh coached Suva side are confident of continuing from where they left off at the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament.

Big play: Tiwa seemed to have regained his form and played an instrumental role in the win.

Comments: Nadroga football coach Waisea Tale said he was disappointed with the way the game ended. Edited by Leone Cabenatabua
