Nasinu Secondary School Dux 2016, Avikash Reuben, has dedicated his awards to his late father. His father died more than a year ago. “My dad was my biggest inspiration and I miss him today,” Avikash, 18, said. “I was shattered to not see my dad but I am glad my mom and sister made it all the way here today to witness my achievements.” The family lives in Lautoka and he is a boarder in Suva. Avikash won eight awards at the school’s prize giving ceremony at World Harvest Centre in Nasinu yesterday. He said all his awards were for his dad. Avikash said he wanted to join a university and study to become a chartered accountant. “I want to show everyone that without my dad and with the support of my mother, I am capable of becoming someone in life,” Avikash said. “I want to become someone better than everyone else in my family, to put my dad’s name up high.” “My studies and achievements are only for my dad and mom and I will never let them down, that is what I have promised my mom and myself,” Avikash said. Avikash’s mother, Jyotika Naidu, was overwhelmed by her son’s achievements yesterday. “I am so proud of my son that he did what he said he will,” Ms Naidu said. “After my husband passed away, Avikash decided to come to Suva and continue his education here and I am happy that he showed everyone he is capable of doing something.” “He has made me and his father proud with his achievements,” Ms Naidu said.
