Vaniqo: I’m Lov­ing Rugby

It was the ic­ing on the cake for Asereti Vaniqo who won the Most Out­stand­ing Player award for 2016 dur­ing the first ever Tacirua Rugby Awards night on Fri­day. The 23-year-old from Sawani, Bua played rugby for the first time this year af­ter six years play­ing soc­cer at Bulileka Col­lege in Labasa.

“I played soc­cer all my life grow­ing up un­til Year 7 at school. I started play­ing rugby when I came to Suva,” Vaniqo said. “All my fam­ily back home don’t even know that I’ve switched to rugby and I’m lov­ing it. “When my name was called out for the most out­stand­ing player, I re­ally could not be­lieve it. Vaniqo in­tends to con­tinue his rugby ca­reer fol­low­ing into the foot­steps of na­tional rep and Bua na­tive, the late Seru Rabeni.

“I want to thank the Lord for the sup­port, guid­ance and bless­ing.”
