It was the icing on the cake for Asereti Vaniqo who won the Most Outstanding Player award for 2016 during the first ever Tacirua Rugby Awards night on Friday. The 23-year-old from Sawani, Bua played rugby for the first time this year after six years playing soccer at Bulileka College in Labasa.

“I played soccer all my life growing up until Year 7 at school. I started playing rugby when I came to Suva,” Vaniqo said. “All my family back home don’t even know that I’ve switched to rugby and I’m loving it. “When my name was called out for the most outstanding player, I really could not believe it. Vaniqo intends to continue his rugby career following into the footsteps of national rep and Bua native, the late Seru Rabeni.

“I want to thank the Lord for the support, guidance and blessing.”
