Fiji Mus­lim ready for FANCA

Lau­toka foot­ball sen­sa­tion, Zi­braaz Sahib, will lead the Fiji Mus­lim side in the 2016 Dig­i­cel FANCA World Cup, which starts to­mor­row at Prince Charles Park, Nadi. Head coach Javed Ahmed said yes­ter­day they were in full force to defy all odds and win the tour­na­ment. The tour­na­ment, hosted by the Fiji Mus­lim League, fea­tures teams from Canada, United States of Amer­ica, Aus­tralia and de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons New Zealand in the main com­pe­ti­tion. Ahmed said they have gath­ered the best line-up of lo­cal boys. “Zi­braaz Shahib will be as­sisted by Nadi district rep Wil­liam Valen­tine,” he said. “The boys have been pre­par­ing very well for this tour­na­ment since we last won in 2012 and we hope to re­peat that this year.”

Fiji, in their open­ing game, take on USA at 8pm while at 6.45pm Aus­tralia take on New Zealand. Ahmed said they were bank­ing on players like Jone­tani Buksh, Aafraz Ali, and strik­ing hero Mo­hamed Shazil Ali. He said the tour­na­ment would be tough with NZ com­ing in full force to de­fend the ti­tle. Ahmed who is also the mem­ber of the FANCA or­gan­is­ing com­mit­tee meGLD DQG PDUNHWLQJ RIåFHU said, the tour­na­ment was played in three categories ZLWK RQO\ 86$ QRW åHOGLQJ a team in the vet­eran’s cat­e­gory. Fiji will de­fend the Mas­ter’s ti­tle while Canada will de­fend the Vet­er­ans. He said the tour­na­ment, IRU WKH åUVW WLPH ZRXOG have a schools cat­e­gory. The Fiji FANCA 2016 ofåFLDO SURJUDPPH EHJLQV with a march at 12noon from Nadi Curry House to Prince Charles Park.
