Fiji Muslim ready for FANCA

Lautoka football sensation, Zibraaz Sahib, will lead the Fiji Muslim side in the 2016 Digicel FANCA World Cup, which starts tomorrow at Prince Charles Park, Nadi. Head coach Javed Ahmed said yesterday they were in full force to defy all odds and win the tournament. The tournament, hosted by the Fiji Muslim League, features teams from Canada, United States of America, Australia and defending champions New Zealand in the main competitio­n. Ahmed said they have gathered the best line-up of local boys. “Zibraaz Shahib will be assisted by Nadi district rep William Valentine,” he said. “The boys have been preparing very well for this tournament since we last won in 2012 and we hope to repeat that this year.”

Fiji, in their opening game, take on USA at 8pm while at 6.45pm Australia take on New Zealand. Ahmed said they were banking on players like Jonetani Buksh, Aafraz Ali, and striking hero Mohamed Shazil Ali. He said the tournament would be tough with NZ coming in full force to defend the title. Ahmed who is also the member of the FANCA organising committee meGLD DQG PDUNHWLQJ RIåFHU said, the tournament was played in three categories ZLWK RQO\ 86$ QRW åHOGLQJ a team in the veteran’s category. Fiji will defend the Master’s title while Canada will defend the Veterans. He said the tournament, IRU WKH åUVW WLPH ZRXOG have a schools category. The Fiji FANCA 2016 ofåFLDO SURJUDPPH EHJLQV with a march at 12noon from Nadi Curry House to Prince Charles Park.
