RAM BAJEKAL TO SPEAK AT FIA LEADERS
Conference in Suva this Friday
O ne of the three speakers at the Fiji Institute of Accountants (FIA) Leaders Conference this Friday will be the managing director of FMF Group, Ram Bajekal.
The conference will be held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva with the theme: “Leading Fiji into the Future: Responding to the New Global Economy”.
There will be two types of sessions - one for the executive management which will be in the morning and the afternoon session will be for the middle management.
Mr Bajekal will be talking in the morning session and can be described as one of the most interesting speakers in Fiji. He will be speaking on the theme: “Looking in to Grow Out”.
Mr Bajekal is recognised for his thought-leadership and his views are regularly sought by think tanks, both formally and informally. He is also a very active speaker at industry forums. He is a Chartered Accountant from India and also a Fulbright Scholar. He was only the third Indian to be awarded the prestigious FulbrightCII Fellowship that took him to Carnegie Mellon University, USA, for management studies. Mr Bajekal has spent most of his working life in India with diverse organisations such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Hindustan Photo Films, Unilever Group and the Murugappa Group. Prior to joining FMF, he had an earlier stint in Fiji working with the Carpenters Group between 2004 and 2006. In 2006, upon completing 25 years in what he calls “the corporate sector rat-race”, Mr Bajekal took a three-year sabbatical to work with an NGO in rural India. There he worked on imparting business skills to micro-entrepreneurs from low-income communities.
He returned to corporate life with FMF in 2009 and says it is only because of the work-life balance that Fiji allows, that he returned to the
corporate world. On the personal side he is a keen sportsman and actively plays hockey, cricket, golf and badminton. He is fond of traditional jazz and Indian classical music.
