Boxing Commission of Fiji acting president, Usman Ali has endorsed two new promoters who are intending to stage their programmes in the coming months. 21st Century Boxing Promotions’ Farman Ali and Kiran Boxing Promotions Ben Krishna Jai received their promoter’s licenses in Nadi. “The Boxing Commission is happy with the two promoters as they have complied with the requirements,” Ali said. “Both of them have been involved with boxing for a long time. This is a big boost to the sport as they are keen to promote as we need to grow the sport and with this move we certainly can achieve that goal.” Businessman Jai, who has spent 35 years in Australia, is expected to take the sport to a new level. He is proposing to stage his programme on January 14, 2017 at Prince Charles Park, Nadi. “I’m planning to bring boxers from Australia and also promote women boxing as well. I have done two amateur fights in Sigatoka now with the view of going professionally as to give something back to the community,” he said. Jai was a boxer in the mid 1970s and was trained by Tony Mundine Snr. His local friends are the likes of John Chotka, Alipate Korovou, Semi Bola and Neel Patel. Faarman who is a renowned boxing trainer plans to hold his programme in mid-December. Ali has been involved with boxing in the last 10 years. “I have trained boxers and if I don’t promote them then they will have to wait for months to get a fight so if I can promote it then I can have more fights for them,” he added.
