He always wanted to be a solider and we have to be happy but more proud of the fact that he has been tasked with such responsibility of serving under the RFMF in another country where there is a need for our men.

The family of Republic of Fiji Military Forces, (Navy) Able Seaman (AB) Jone Vosaboto bid him farewell yesterday as he left for a year of duty in Iraq. AB Vosaboto is part of the Fijian guard force under the United Nations Assistance Mission For Iraq (UNAMI). His wife, Ruci Rakoto was grateful for the opportunity given to his husband to serve. This is AB Vosaboto’s second tour of duty. The first was in 2012 in Sinai. “He had wanted to go for his mission with the troops in Iraq and after a lot of test and trials he has made,” Ms Rakoto said. Family members from Navala village in Ba were also at the Nadi Airport to say good-bye. “We are all just very proud of his selection,” said his father Eneriko Nakubulevu. The 60-year-old was not worried but in fact happy that the youngest of his three children was living his dreams of thrills and excitements of being a soldier. “He always wanted to be a solider and we have to be happy but more proud of the fact that he has been tasked with such responsibility of serving under the RFMF in another country where there is a need for our men,” Mr Nakubulevu said. AB Vosaboto’s mother, Elena Lawai-Nakubulevu was proud yet shed a few tears after bidding her son farewell for a year. She said she would pray for his son every day until he returned. AB Vosaboto has three children who will be waiting for his return eagerly, next year. He was amongst the 22 RFMF soldiers who have departed for Iraq yesterday. More are expected to depart next week Sunday. UNAMI (United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq) was formed by the United Nations in Security Council Resolution 1500 on 14 August 2003 and supports national development efforts on political, electoral, and humanitarian levels throughout Iraq..
