Tribute to the Classics

-

Mosese Naicegulevu, Suva I dearly want to thank Nemani and Talei for the unique and wonderful show they created and hosted titled ‘TRIBUTE TO THE CLASSICS’, which was featured on Fiji TV on Saturday and Sunday last week. Thank you Fiji TV for airing this high quality show, and those who have been the kind sponsors at the Grand Pacific Hotel.

What a most fitting tribute to Fiji’s great composers most of whom have passed on like Ratu Tevita Naulivou (I Ragone Ni Bula Ni Yadra, Vakaraubuka Au Biuti Suva), Percy Bucknell (Biu Ko Suva Nikua, Na Bu Ko Drau A Solia, Vorovoro Malau Kei Vuo), MASTER EREMASI TAMANISAU SNR (Ena Dela Ni Wai Siliva, Liwavi Au Na Tokalau, Noqu Senibua Qoroi, Sa I Levuka Ga), Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara (Ciri Koto), Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba (Isa Lei), Ilisapeci Tamani (Yalo E Vei Ciriyaki), Gilaman Lasaisuva (Ko Lakeba), and Saimone Vuatalevu (Tucake Mai). The talanoa on the background to these songs and the reasons why they were created have indeed given more meaning and breathed life to these great musical classics. These songs have withstood the test of time and will live on timelessly to entertain us, our children, grandchildren and the generations yet to come. My friends and I continue to discuss this great show, at times, with tears in our eyes as we reminisce these great classics. May I request our national TV station, Fiji TV, to replay the TRIBUTE TO THE CLASSICS again because of national interest and because of its positive contribution to the learning curve of our young aspiring composers.
