ACoral Coast resort is continuing to improve life for the surrounding villages and schools. The Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort general manager Peter Hopgood revealed the property was embarking on a new community project from today for the Sigatoka Special School in Sigatoka. Mr Hopgood said: “With the support of our guests we will be building a new engineering workshop at the Sigatoka Special School.

“This new facility will allow the children with special needs the ability to learn new skills which one day may give them the opportunity to find employment.”

He said the facility should be completed by March 1. Three weeks ago the property hosted 20 eye surgeons from the United States. “Over the past four years they have undertaken over 3000 consultations, but more importantly they have undertaken surgical procedures and returned eye sight to over 300 local residents of Nadroga Navosa (province),” Mr Hopgood said.

“Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort is also well known for its commitment to community tourism. “Every month one of my departments will undertake a community project, whether it be with a local village, school or even the hospital,” Mr Hopgood said. Last Saturday Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy officially opened their latest community tourism project, a new kindergarten (Ellis Betts) at the Conua District School. The Jonathan McDaniel library project was also opened through a returnee Jennifer McDaniel, wife of the late Jonathan for her contribution in building this new library and stocking it with books.
