Upset with India’s Oppositions’ continuous attack over demonetisation, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit back, holding rival parties responsible for disruption inside and outside the Parliament. This move (demonetisation) is not the final destination, it is just a beginning, PM Modi said while addressing the BJP parliamentary meet.

The opposition is only trying to deviate from the point, but the government will not stop its movement against corruption, Mr Modi said.

Referring to the falling standards of public policy debate, Mr Modi said that politics has stooped to a new low. He said: “There are many people who are ideologically against the BJP, despite that they are with us for our fight against corruption. I will like to thank Nitish Kumar, Naveen Patnaik for their support.” Upping the ante against the Opposition, Mr Modi said that some people, despite being from corrupt political parties, had the gall to oppose demonetisation. In his speech, the Prime Minister invoked Indira Gandhi to hit back at Congress. Mr Gandhi had ignored note ban advice in 1971, said Mr Modi. “This move (demonetisation) was recommended by the Wanchoo Committee in 1971 to end the corruption. “We are very much late in implementing it, this delay has ruined our country,” he added.

Taking a jab at the Left for its policy about-faces, Mr Modi said that Left parties have forgotten their basic ideology. That is why they keep changing their stand time and again, he said. Mr Modi also talked about his government’s push for digital India, “Digital is a process to change the way of life and economy. It will benefit everyone.”
