Silvano Dressino appointed GM of new Fiji Marriott Resort
EXPECTED TO OVERSEE ALL PRE-OPENING ACTIVITY AND LOOKS TO IMMEDIATELY RECRUIT A STRONG TEAM BEFORE 2017
Silvano Dressino has been appointed as the general manager for Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay which is slated to open in April. The announcement has been made by Marriott International. Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay is owned and being developed by the Fiji National Provident Fund and operated by Marriott International. Marriott International has become the world’s largest hotel chain after taking over Starwood Hotels Group. Mr Dressino brings with him 24 years working experience in the hotel industry with 20 years at the Marriott International. Mr Dressino is understood to be currently staying in Nadi before he moves to the resort property in Momi Bay soon. As general manager, Mr Dressino is expected to oversee all pre-opening activity, ensuring the highly anticipated resort opens on time and to great success.
In his role, he will be responsible for the resorts day-to-day operations, driving all aspects of execution with respect to project management, budget preparation, brand compliance and recruitment.
Mr Dressino said: “I am thrilled to continue my journey with Marriott International as general manager of Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay. “I have been part of the Marriott family for over 20 years so it’s a great honour to be asked to open the first Marriott branded resort in Fiji.” As for his next steps, Mr Dressino said he is looking forward to recruiting a strong team to help him establish the resort as a popular destination for both leisure and business travellers alike.
His background
Mr Dressino started his career with Marriott International in 1996 as assistant to the regional public relations manager at the Marriott Regional Office in Eschborn, Germany. Working for Marriott International has allowed him to pursue various roles in international markets. This includes general manager at Shanghai Pudong Hotel, China, resident manager at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong and director of reservation sales at Munich Marriott Hotel. Most recently, Mr Dressino was interim general manager at JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach. Here he successfully managed the preopening activity of the 634 room, flagship property, which is due to open this month. Prior to this, he was general manager for JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya, where he initiated a wide range of customer service initiatives and achieved a 10 per cent year-on-year growth in guest satisfaction scores.
Expectations
As General Manager for Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, Mr Dressino will report into Sean Hunt, area vice president, Australia, New Zealand & Pacific at Marriott International. “Silvano brings a wealth of experience to this role and I have no doubt that he will do an exceptional job at launching Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay,” Mr Hunt said.
“His ability to lead an international team while providing a personalised experience to guests will make him the perfect candidate for this role.”
