Fatafehi Tilini couldn’t hold back her tears yesterday when her husband finally graduated during the Fiji National University graduation.

Travelling all the way from Tonga, Ms Talini said she was just overwhelmed because it’s been a long process coming back and forth for the past two years while her husband pursued his studies. Proud husband, Ofa-Ki-Okalani Tilini who graduated with a Trade Diploma in Electrical and Renewable Energy was one of the 450 students from the College of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry and College of Engineering, Science and Technology who graduated at the Vodafone Arena in Suva. “When we first came here, we didn’t really know our way around Fiji and it was so hard,” she said.

But because of the friendliness of the people it was easier to find their way around, she said.

“One thing I’ve learned is you learn more about the people of Fiji when you live like a local,” she said. One of the tough things she had to handle was when her son usually asked for his father and would want quality time with him, she said.

But the sacrifice has all been worth it, present at the ceremony was proud dad, Solomone Tilini and the couple’s son. Mr Tilini was also on attachment with the Fiji Electricity Authority and also worked with communities that had been affected during Cyclone Winston. The family flew back to Tonga last night.
