t was a great moment for Mere Rasavere, surrounded by her grandmother and aunties yesterday as they tried to get a picture with the proud graduate. Ms Rasavere was one of the 450 students who graduated in one of the sessions at the Fiji National University graduation ceremony at the Vodafone Arena in Suva. She attributed her achievement to all the hard working and amazing women in her life that have supported her in her upbringing and studies.

“I also dedicate this to my late grandfather who played a huge role in my life,” said the Macuata lass.

“I will pursue further studies from here and I would like to become a teacher.” Proud aunt Rawaqavanua Kaususu said she was just proud of what her niece achieved. Ms Rasavere is the youngest of six siblings and graduated with a Higher Education Diploma in Agriculture. During the ceremony, FNU Vice Chancellor, Professor Nigel Healey encouraged the graduates to succeed in their chosen career and make the university proud of their achievement.

“A university’s success is measured by the quality of its teaching and the success of its graduates once they are out in the workforce,” said Professor Healey. FNU has almost 17,000 students enrolled in their five colleges and another 10,000 students taking short courses at their National Training and Productivity Centre. Edited by Rusiate Mataika
