From today Suva Private Hospital will now be known as Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (MIOT) Pacific Hospitals. This was announced by BSP Life managing director, Fiji Operations Malakai Naiyaga. Suva Private Hospital had been 100% owned by BSP Life. Mr Naiyaga said Oceania Hospitals Proprietor Limited, a new entity were the owners of the operational assets, staff and business of Suva Private Hospital effective from January 1st. He said this was a milestone achievement for Suva Private Hospital because BSP always had the intention to find a partner which specialised at private hospital management.

“This Oceania Hospital will be a new private hospital partnership that will own and enter into a management agreement via the MIOT International through their investment arm in Fiji to manage the hospital,” Mr Naiyaga said. He added the new investment was approximately $14 million in value, the amount investment by the new entity, Oceania Hospitals.

“Part of this investment amount is for the purchase of the existing operation and part of it is for the investment of new premises,” he said.

“There will be an extension of the current hospital and the purchase of the state of the art equipment like diagnostic equipments.

“We are also bringing new specialists from India and they will be offering various services previously not available at the hospital.” Mr Naiyaga also said none of the employees of Suva Private Hospital were losing their job.

“The existing practitioners will still practice with the new managers but what MIOT will supply is specialists we do not have in Fiji at the moment.” He also applauded the support from the Fijian Government in terms of supporting Private Hospitals in many ways. Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will officially open the new MIOT Pacific Hospital on the 18th of this month.
