London: If you’re desperate to lose weight but aren’t excited by the sight of your bland salad, the answer may lie in how you organise your kitchen.

According to experts, there’s plenty of simple organisational hacks that can help you lose pounds without dieting.

From leaving a fruit bowl on display to storing your plates on a bottom shelf, Rick Hay, nutritionist for Healthista.com, and Registered Dietician and Consultant Nutritionist Hala El-Shafie, have shared the simple changes you can make to your kitchen that will stop you from overeating. “What you have in your kitchen and where you place these items have a much more profound effect than most would realise,” said Hala El-Shafie. “As creatures of habit we move around our home and about our day in a pretty subconscious fashion - so where and how we store our foods and utensils can have a profound affect on our waist line. “What we see in reach and what is readily available to us will have a direct affect on what we reach for so it stands to reason if we “manipulate” this we can really affect our choices and ultimately our health.”

Style your fridge: Placing healthy foods at eye level and filling your fridge with vibrant colour and enticing fresh food is a fantastic start. What the eye sees the belly wants so make sure you have beautifully coloured fresh fruit and vegetables filling your fridge and is the first thing you reach for. Use beautifully designed smaller

plates: This one works every single time and focuses on portion size and mindfulness as, generally speaking, a smaller plate of vibrant food will ultimately make you want to savour and enjoy the flavours. Move your bigger plates to a lower shelf so you don’t feel tempted to reach for them and pile too much food on them. Being easy on the eye will help you chew more and more slowly helping to ease your levels of satiety ultimately helping you lose weight if that’s your goal - portion size and mindful eating in one. Invest in really great cutlery and table dressings and accessories:

Even if you’re dining alone, having a ‘mindful’ experience when eating can help slow down your eating, making you present and therefore ultimately reducing the urge to over eat as you won’t miss your satiety clues.
