Warwick Hotels and Resorts Coral Coast properties are hosting representatives from tertiary and technical institutions, plus trade schools, together with youths from the region at the inaugural Warwick Community Youth expo. The “Make It Count Expo” would be held at Warwick Fiji on Wednesday. The expo has been created to interactively create awareness of the wide range of skilled positions required by the hospitality industry. This includes the training courses that are available beyond secondary school for young people that will assist in their path towards future employment. Warwick Hotels and Resorts community liaison officer Mereisi Ratulevu said: “Our resorts are always looking for trade skilled team members. “We would like to be able to employ these from our local communities. “With 80 pre-registered candidates already committed to attend the expo, we are enthusiastic about the response from the youth and stakeholders for this community based initiative.” It is an opportunity for the young people from the local communities to consider their future and meet directly with representatives from various training and tertiary institutions. Representatives and organisations attending the expo include the Ministry of Youth and Sports, University of South Pacific, Fiji National University, the Technical College of Fiji-Nadroga Navosa Provincial Campus, Nasau Technical College, the National Employment Centre, and the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation. The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) and LICI insurance will have representatives at the expo to discuss financial assistance for training needs. Also human resources manag- ers from Warwick Fiji, The Naviti Resort, and Tambua Sands will be available to meet the young people and their parents to discuss career pathways. In addition to the widely known hospitality areas of front office, food and beverage skilled positions required by resorts cover a wide number of trades. This ranges from carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical to administrators and clerical workers. Warwick Hotels and Resorts, with three resorts on the Coral Coast of Fiji — Warwick Fiji, The Naviti Resort and Tambua Sands — is a major employer of staff in that region. The three resorts combined employ over 850 team members from the local Coral Coast communities.
