With Government’s investment towards education, there should be no excuses not to send your child to school, says Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto.

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander said this while speaking to his Force members and their families at their first church service for this year at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday. Rear Admiral Naupoto said parents had an important responsibility in their children’s education. He said in the past children were sent home because they weren’t able to pay their school fees. “We should thank Government that now our children can go to school without worrying about their school fees,” Rear Admiral Naupoto said. He also shared his experience when he was a Year 10 student at Queen Victoria School in Tailevu. “I can still remember I was sent home whilst attending high school because my school fees were not paid so I had to miss classes for a whole term. “I had to wait at home until my mother, who was in my village in Vatoa, Lau had to collect coconuts and sell them so the money can be sent over for my school fees, then I went back to school the next term,” Rear Admiral Naupoto said. He said those days are over now with Government’s assistance toward education. The Rear Admiral reminded parents not to deprive their children of their right to education.

“Don’t deprive them of their education. This is their time and it is your role to support them,” he said. Rear Admiral Naupoto also reminded children within the RFMF family to spend their time wisely in school. “Your school days only come once so make good use of it and perform to the best of your ability.

“Nothing in this world lasts forever, this also applies to your education and while you are still in school, try to figure out what your career in the future is and start working towards it,” he said. Rear Admiral Naupoto said that a child’s future depended on how their parents molded them. “Try to channel your children to the right direction and for that to be successful, parents need to wise in their decisions. “When children are channelled to the wrong direction it can lend them in prison,” he said.
