Vodafone Fijian national football head coach, Christophe Gamel, was among spectators at Subrail Park in Labasa yesterday. The former Paris SaintGermain (PSG) assistant coach said the purpose of his Northern visit was to look at players competing in the Vodafone Premier League matches. Gamel is looking for more players to join the national squad which would allow him to select the team for next month’s national duties. “I want many players so I could have a good view. I’m looking for technical players who are powerful, have high level intensity work rate and most of all be able to stay calm during hard games,” he said. Gamel said he would visit other districts when the need arose.

“My vision is clear, I don’t want players to use drugs and they have to understand this. I will not show any pity to players who refuse to understand this. I don’t want the Fiji Football Association to get into trouble because of one person. I will end the career of players who uses drugs. “Our communication has to be clear. I know I will not have many friends but I’m not here to make friends. I’m here since January 6 to help develop football players and I know my job very well. I have seen powerful players but this is nothing if they can’t control their body and lack technical skills. I’m looking at players who have skills and ability.” He pointed out that he would start with the goalkeepers. “The keeper has to be very skilful and fit. They should be able to read the game and apply what I want. They have to have confidence in playing short pass. “If you play long pass then it is very difficult for the midfielder and striker. “They have to make good choices and be responsible of their own game. I implemented my plans at the national camp and it worked very well.”
