Primary School Role was Preparation: Aaliyah
The newly-inducted headgirl of Nadi Muslim College believes playing the same role at primary school level was the preparation ground for secondary school level.
“It’s an immense role as I have been used to being a prefect over the years including the headgirl of Nadi Muslim Primary School when I was in Year Six (Year Seven and Eight were moved to NMC),” said 18-year-old Aaliya Nisha. “This is a huge challenge for me personally especially when we have a big school roll of 916 students. With the assistance of the student council body and teachers we’ll maintain order at all times.” Aaliya was inducted as headgirl, Luqmaan Khan as headboy with all the prefects in a ceremony during a school assembly at the Nadi school on Thursday.
Aaliya believes this role would bring joy to her father who is motor mechanic at a renowned bus company in Nadi.
“My mum and dad are very proud of this achievement to see me being the headgirl and this is for all their love and care. Leaders are made at home,” the 18-year-old said. She aspires to one day become a doctor.
Her hobbies include reading, writing and playing football.
The principal, Nazerin Rafiq, and chief guest, Fiji Muslim League Nadi branch president Haji Amjad Ali voiced their confidence and faith in the ability of the prefects to lead.
“I challenged the student council members to uphold the school discipline and culture to the best of their abilities,” Mr Ali said. Ms Rafiq congratulated the newly inducted prefects and reminded them that the college and the country needed authentic leaders. “Leaders who should have the ability to deliver and accomplish the college and Ministry of Education Mission and Vision,” Ms Rafiq said.
