Expect heavy falls: Kumar

Heavy rain-fall is expected in the Western Division in coming days, says Fiji Meteorolog­ical Services director Ravind Kumar.

Mr Kumar said this after a trough of low pressure remained slow moving over just to the north of Fiji which was likely to bring associated cloud and showers which would affect the northern and the eastern group.

“The Western Division is expected to have heavy falls along with some parts of the country, but this will mostly be afternoon showers,” Mr Kumar said.

“In the coming days there will be isolated heavy falls in the afternoon for the Western Division and in some parts of the country. “There is nothing severe around the country for now affect the country, office continues to closely monitor the weather and will notify if there is significan­t weather.” Mr Kumar said there was a system developing east of Samoa but was likely not going to affect the Fiji group. Meanwhile, the outlook for today will be occasional showers and thundersto­rms over Vanua Levu, Yasawa, northern Lau and Lomaiviti group, the eastern parts and the interior of the other larger islands. Elsewhere, afternoon or evening showers and isolated thundersto­rms with heavy falls expected.

For Navua, Suva and Nausori expect cloudy periods with some showers and isolated thundersto­rms. Outlook for today will be occasional showers and a few thundersto­rms.

In Nadi, Lautoka and Ba there will be afternoon or evening showers and isolated thundersto­rms and heavy falls expected.

For Labasa there will be Cloudy periods with some showers and isolated thundersto­rms. For Savusavu there will be Cloudy periods with some showers and isolated Thundersto­rms. A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and showers. Remains slow over Rotuma which will bring Occasional rain, heavy at times and few thundersto­rms.
