THREE THINGS FIJIANS MUST CONSIDER BEFORE MOVING TO NZ:
Rabelo Ivor Nawaqa
Even though everything is high in expenses we still managed to save, in FJ no we can’t save any money .... After all expenses in a week and saving we still send money to relatives in FJ ..... No more hard time !!
Margaret Cleary
However may I point out that Farah is talking about the bigger cities in NZ. All cities are more expensive to live in rents, transport, education etc. Smaller towns are much more cheaper and more inclusive.
Sunny Kaiveikau
Please then explain why NZ has a large rural-urban population drift, both in amounts and percentage of the population. Employment is very hard to find in smaller towns.
Margaret Cleary
As an immigrant myself from Fiji I am not saying it is easy but she makes it sound really negative.I believe that if you come to NZ you have to change and accept that things will be different. I hated it for the 1st 6 years but then I realized I had to change not NZ.I went to another smaller city which was much more inclusive than Auckland and I came to love the place and when I did move back to Auckland I was fine.
Ali Imraaz
I have lived all over nz ! All towns have got the same expenses range!
Margaret Cleary
NZ is more expensive but the writer is so negative I don’t know why she is living here. She is a lawyer and Ali you can’t tell me that NZ lawyers are poor.Give me a break.
Margaret Cleary
Sunny all countries have a rural urban drift.Young people want the excitement of the urban experience. Don’t tell me that they don’t go to Suva and Lautoka for the experiences. Come on.And there are a lot of rural towns in NZ attracting new industry etc eg.Nelson and Oamaru.
Sunny Kaiveikau
Now please explain how immigrants are to find employment in these ‘smaller towns’ to overcome the issues faced in ‘bigger cities’..
Ali Imraaz
She is talking about those who sell there properties in Fiji, comes here and work for $15.75 30hrs max! I know some who have done this plus yearly renewal worth grands! No time to save anything!
Sunny Kaiveikau
Your claim the article is ‘negative’ is exaggerated. The article provides an alternative view on migration and you maybe taking it personally- it applies to all countries people from Fiji generally migrate to.
Margaret Cleary
Sunny I am not being negative about Farah.I understand she is giving a viewpoint but this article did not provide balance. This woman is trying to put people off like a lady in the comments. The journalists needed to provide balance Also seems a funny article to write. Surely most sensible Fijian people investigate before they move.
Daniel Kenny
Sunny you seem to asking alot so it bring to me to this question why arent you in Fiji then???...your details shows that you live in Sydney.
