Ba Can: Zahid

- NADI WAISEA NASOKIA Edited by Anasilini Ratuva

New Zealand based national and Ba striker Abbu Zahid believes that 4R Electric Ba side can win their 19th Pillay Garments Champion vs Champion Series title. The ‘Men in Black’ plays neighbours General Machinery Lautoka in their opening clash at Lautoka’s Churchill Park at 7pm.

“Yes they can, Ba can win despite both matches being played in Lautoka.

“Ba needs to play as a team and they need to create chances in front for the finishing job.

“Lautoka’s weakness lies in the midfield area. If they can capitalize that area then there will beno problem to claim the victory.” Zahid said.

The 26-year-old now plays for Franklin United but was out for Ba during the recent OFC Champions League outings.

The ‘Men in Black’ won the Series 18-times since 1993-2006, 2008, 2012, 2013, and last tasted victory in 2014.

Zahid played a crucial role for Ba in the CVC having ¬won the title twice in 2013 and 2014.

“No doubt the fans will be in full force and I wish the teams well in their quest for the CVC title.” Zahid joined Ba in July 1, 2012 from Lautoka after he was not given much game time and later made his debut against Navua at Govind Park that season.

At one stage, Zahid was among the most envied striker on the pitch by his opponents for his crafty goals proving critics wrong.

He is classified a goal scoring hero just like those of former reps Josaia Bukalidi Junior, ManoaMasi, Esala Masi and the evergreen Taito Bula who had donned the black jumper. The return leg will be played at the same venue at 3pm on Sunday.
