The Advanced Parts sponsored Labasa football team continued on with their winning run as they dumped JIL Dreketi 2-0 in the Vodafone Premier League clash last night. The three points earned at Subrail Park pushed the Babasiga Lions to the top of the points table.

In the 40th minute Labasa midfielder Edwin Sahayam scored from a freekick after Dreketi defender Krishneel Krishna fouled Labasa midfielder Nickel Chand. Dreketi fought back trying to score the equaliser but the Labasa defence stood tall. Tempers flared in the 44th minute from an argument and referee Shalesh Chand gave Chand the marching orders when he was shown the red card.

Labasa 1-0 Dreketi

In the 58th minute Labasa striker Christopher Wasasala volleyed the ball past Dreketi goal keeper Waisake Ravuiwasa for their second goal..

Dreketi coach Johan Leewai said he was satisfied with the players’ performance.

“Compared to our previous game against Ba, my players managed to pick up on their fitness. Just because of a miscalculation my players lost control of the ball that saw Labasa score their goals.”

Labasa Football Association vice-president Varun Anand welcomed the win as they aim to win the league title.

“I feel that we could have done better if our coach, Ronil Lal was around.”
