China Ready to Help: Ambassador Zhang
It is imperative for our law enforcement authorities to combat transnational crimes together, he adds
China stands ready to work with Fiji Corrections Services to promote more fruitful exchanges and co-operation between Chinese Prison Management authority and the Fiji Corrections Services.
Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Zhang Ping said this to the media as chief guest at the Fiji Corrections Service passing-out parade yesterday at the Naboro Corrections Centre. Ambassador Zhang said while China and Fiji were focusing on developing their respective economies and promoting the people’s welfare, we also faced the increasing challenges of transactional crimes which threatened the security and safety of the respective countries and its people.
“It is imperative for the law enforcement authorities of our two countries to further strengthen co-operation and work together to combat transnational crimes,” he said.
“We also need to strengthen exchange and co-operation between our correction services to make our prison systems more capable and effective to stop the re-occurrence of the crime offences.”
He said China and Fiji have long been friends and partners of cooperation which covered a wide range of areas, including law enforcement.
“Over the years, our two law enforcement agencies have conducted a number of exchange and co-operation programmes, ranging from capacity building, exchanges of police officers and personnel training,” Ambassador Zhang said. “Through these programmes, each side has benefitted a great deal by learning and sharing experience and expertise.
“We are very appreciative and thankful for the valuable support and assistance that both Fiji Police and Fiji Corrections Services have given to us.”
