Sisters Connection To Benefit Fiji
Young Fijian table tennis rep Sally Yee believes the connection she has with her sister Grace will be Fiji’s advantage in the ITTF Oceania Junior Championship doubles event on April 1316 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva. The Yee sisters have both represented Fiji in table tennis and will be aiming to take out the doubles event next week.
“I’m nervous and excited at the same time and extremely overwhelmed because training has been tough leading up to this very day,” she said.
“The doubles event will be an interesting one but I am looking forward to it because I will be playing with my younger sister Grace. “Playing doubles with her (Grace) can be frustrating sometimes but we have been playing doubles together since we started playing table tennis.
“I think we have an advantage over other teams because we are sisters and we have been playing together for a long time.
“We communicate better with each other, we may fight sometimes but that’s what makes us competitive.
“Grace and I know each other pretty well, she knows my strengths and weaknesses and I know hers, we learn off each other in games and play better side by side.
“I am looking forward to the competition just as much as she is and we are both training really hard.” The one thing Sally wants to gain out of the championship is to broaden her skills and understanding of the game.
“There will be players from various countries who have different skills and know more about the game so I want to learn from them. “I want to become a better player and learn as much as I can and I want to try and build myself up and get a medal for my country.
“But I know it will not be easy, especially with top players coming from Australia and New Zealand, but it will be exciting and I hope the public will come out in numbers to support us.”
