Team CBM for Martintar 7s
Team CBM 7s side have been preparing well for the 4th FWCC Martintar Sevens tournament to be staged at Prince Charles Park, Nadi on April 28-29. Organisers say, CBM are among the five teams that are made-up of players from Vanua Levu.
For the past month Team CBM have been training in Namaka under the watchful eyes of trainer Ropate Leqeleqe. Tournament organiser Timoci Waqaniburotu told SUNsports they are made-up of players that hail from the provinces of Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata but are working and living in Namaka.
“Most of these players play club rugby in Nadi and are looking forward to create upsets in the tournament. There is a big support from the people of Vanua Levu and Taveuni as they are fielding five teams in our tournament and they will certainly lift the level of competition,” he said.
“To come all the way from Vanua Levu and Taveuni to be part of the Martintar Sevens tournament shows how popular our tournament has become.
“The teams’ preparations and funds used to be in our tournament should be applauded. So in return we need to provide them a well-organised tournament so they could showcase their rugby talents and enjoy the moment as well.” Three teams from Taveuni, which include the two First Light Taveuni teams are playing along with the Can Do Generation side from Labasa.
First Light Taveuni and Can Do Generation both participated in the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament last month and are camping in the West ever since. Waqaniburotu added that the inclusion of First Light Taveuni playmaker Lemeki Tulele into the Vodafone Fijian 7s team have boosted the morale of the northern players leading up to the tournament .
He said this year’s Martintar Sevens tournament would be an exciting one to watch as the underdogs from the North are coming in to take away the top prize money of $5000.
“Rugby fans in the West should not miss to watch top class rugby sevens action at this year’s Martintar 7s tournament.
Both the Coral Coast champions First Light Taveuni and Marist 7s champion Tabadamu will be aiming to dethrone last year’s champions Wardens Gold.
The entry fee is $6 for adults and $2 for under-12, while those 6-years and below are free.
