Retiree out to revive Lautoka cricket
Moves are underway to revive the Lautoka Cricket Association Spearheading the move is Petero Lusio who told SUNsports that he felt bad after seeing some people from Lautoka travelling to Nadi to play cricket.
“That’s the reason why I want to revive the Lautoka Cricket Association,” he said.
“I want it up as soon as possible and therefore I want people in Lautoka to know about this. Those that are interested can join the association.”
Lusio was the Lautoka Cricket Association president in the late 1970s.
“I think it was in 1990 or 1991 was the last time the Lautoka Cricket Association was up and running and soon after that it died. Cricket is not up to the standard because we need good coaches.”
Despite being in his 70s, Lusio says, he is still fit to train those who want to play cricket.
“There are no restrictions for anyone who want to be part of the association. I would encourage secondary school students to be part of this association and I have spoken with some secondary schools in Lautoka where students can form a cricket group,” he said.
Lusio said he is also working towards getting a proper cricket facility.
“I’ve requested the Lautoka Town Council and also the people of Lautoka if they could help me secure some sort of facility before the association starts,” he added.
