Funds raised during the Adi Bua festival this year would be directed to securing nine plots of land in Nabouwalu, one for each of the nine districts in the Bua province.

This was the announcement by the Assistant Roko Tui Bua, Kusitino Roko, at a recent district meeting in Naiviqiri Village in Bua.

Mr Roko said a district was expected to raise $40,000 each for the commercial plot and it was the duty of the districts to develop them.

“In the past years, funds raised were directed towards a scholarship for the children of Bua in tertiary institutions but this year it will be used to secure nine land plots for each of the district,” Mr Roko said. “While Government is working towards the declaration of Nabouwalu as a town, we the people of Bua have to ensure that we are able to play an important role in its running. “This is in the sense where are able to reap financial benefits as well as helping the towns economy grow.” Mr Roko has also called on the support of all the districts in their stand to be financially productive. “Togetherness is the way forward for us. We need to unite and be focused on a goal to help develop and move Bua forward,” he said.

In an interview with the Permanent Secretary for Local Government, Housing and Environment Joshua Wycliffe, he confirmed that works toward the declaration of the town continued with the Environment Impact Assesment (EIA) done and some construction works had started. Close to $130,000 was raised by the people during the Adi Bua festival in Bua last year.
