Fiji Police chief of operations Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu yesterday said all the junctions to the ANZ Stadium would be closed in Suva by 4pm tomorrow.

“We will also be closing off the stretch of road (Laucala Bay Road) from the junctions of Queen Elizabeth Drive and Grantham Road from 4pm,” said ACP Tudravu.

ACP Tudravu reminded fans that officers would be out in force to keep the stadium safe and to refrain from any illegal activity.

“As officers will be deployed for coverage at the venue of the Super Rugby match this Friday, I am urging members of the public to adhere to the usual safety measures particularly at the ANZ Stadium,” he said.

“Specialised units will be deployed to the ANZ Stadium consisting of the Police Special Response Unit, K-9 and Drugs to name a few, and random checks will be conducted at all points of entries.”

He said safety regulations set out by the management of the ANZ Stadium must be strictly followed and the Police was urging everyone to abide by them as officers would not hesitate to seize or remove items or persons who did not comply. “We will only allow those with the approved vehicle passes to enter the restricted areas and this is being done in accordance with security measures at Super Rugby match venues,” he said.

“Our traffic officers will be deployed from 3pm to control and direct traffic and from 4pm full closure will be done for the above mentioned roads.

“I urge us all to work together to ensure the Super Rugby event is incident free so that we are able to showcase our ability as a nation to host major sporting events.”
