The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation wishes to inform the general public about the Help for Home exercise in Lautoka.

This comes amid rumours that the ministry will commence the initiative operation in Lautoka from May 15 to 17.

It was noted that about 500 people gathered at Shirley Park in Lautoka after a rumour was spread the final Help for Homes payout would commence.

Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Dr Josefa Koroivueta said: “This news came to us with absolute surprise and certainly we have never propagated the communication to lead to such gathering at Shirley Park. We have completed the HFH final phase in Lautoka to cover Lautoka and the Yasawas too. “The Ministry would be keen to know the originator of such public rumour and the public should be advised to make sure that they have the right information at hand before they partake in any such gathering. “We need to take to task who was behind such rumour and let the public know the truth of the matter.”

It is a cheap shot at the price of public disturbance, he said.

The ministry is urging those that are hearing of such rumours to contact our office on landline number 331-2199 for further clarification and those that are found to be spreading such rumours will be taken to task.
