Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary, Jitendra Singh yesterday confirmed Agriculture show schedules.

The first show is scheduled for next week on May 24-26 at Subrail Park in Labasa. With the theme: “Climate Smart Agriculture for Fiji,” Mr Singh said it would make people understand the impact of climate change and promote the pillars of climate change which includes sustainability, resilience, adaptability and mitigation.

The main aim of the show is to promote agriculture in the economy and in the country to showcase

the contribution of the sector and also encourage more farmers into farming, he says.

He added that there are about 65,000 registered farmers around the country.

“We also take this opportunity to promote livestock and crop production for small holder farms and commercial farmers around Fiji,” he said.

He said the programme gives them the opportunity to strengthen their relationship with stakeholders and civil society organisations.

The show will have farmers awarded in their respective fields, display of animals, and oratory contest. The show is in its third year running.

“We want to acknowledge the support of our sponsors and business houses who will make this show a reality for us,” said Mr Singh.

Meanwhile, the Central Division show is scheduled to take place at Syria Park, Nausori, from June 21-23.
