Police Encourage Partnership With Communities

Lami District School Neighborhood Watch launched

Director of Community Policing, SSP Waqa Cavuilati said the Fiji Police Force believes community policing is the way forward and the best approach that could bring about lasting peace in our communities.

He said this as the chief guest at the launch of the Lami District Schools Neighbourhood Watch. The launch brought with it a hype of activity with residents and schools from the Lami area yesterday.

SSP Cavuilati said to make it work the Police and the community needed a partnership founded on trust and togetherness to build and preserve a secure environment for everyone including our students. “Community control is the vital aim of community policing where the community itself primarily takes ownership of their safety and security,” he said. Parent, Finau Madanawa said she was very happy with the launch yesterday and it was a good idea to bring this into their community to keep their students safe. “This launch is important as crime is increasing in our society and to inform students from the primary level to be aware of things happening around them,” said Ballantine Memorial School teacher, Eroni Ligaloa.

The Lami Schools Crime Prevention Watch billboard was unveiled followed by performances from students including singing, dance, and oratory items. The theme for the launch was: Together We Create Safe and Secure Schools for All 11 Lami Schools were part of the event which included a march with the Fiji Police Brass Band from the Lami Police Post to Tikaram Park in Lami Town where the event was held.
