Newly-elected Nadi Taxi Association President, Vasu Nair, aims to curb illegal transport services in Nadi

This was after he and other office bearers of the association held their second meeting at the Nadi Club Hall on Thursday.

The association recently had their first annual general meeting (AGM) with outgoing president, Saiyad Nabi.

“The meeting went very smoothly, with the Policeman there to see and count the votes of the office bearers.

“We also thank all the people who attended this meeting and those who supported me.

“My main goal is do what the outgoing president could not do, but the main priority will be curbing illegal transport, that is the paramount one,” he said.

Mr Nair was the association general-secretary for the past 17 years. He said he hoped to solve most of the grievances that had been highlighted by the association. “The first one, as you know is the illegal operations and the conditions of the taxi stand and roads. “We are also trying to provide night services for taxis, but this is still in the pipeline. We will look at that seriously.

“One major concern is the safety of the drivers who will be driving at night, but we are trying to work with Police and Land Transport Authority on that.”

He also acknowledged Navindra Goundar for providing Nadi Club Hall to be used for the meeting. The new office members are: President Vasu Nair, vice-president Bal Naidu and Karun Pillay, Secretary Shasi Shalendra Prasad and Treasurer Shamsher Ali.

Five committee members are: Naushad Ali, Shan Saten Kumar, Janend Kumar and Mohammed Rafiq.
