The two players who tested positive for using illegal substances on Thursday at the Vodafone Fiji FACT at Ratu Cakobau Park were from Dreketi. This was confirmed by Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf yesterday. And the duo will be banned from all levels of football for six weeks until they get retested on July 1. Yusuf said they aim to crackdown on players who use drugs.

“We are trying to clean up the sport and also fulfil our social responsibility at the same time,” Yusuf said.

“We are happy with the support from the districts as they have been taking the anti-doping message seriously and even doing their own tests.

“The two players who have tested positive will be given another chance to come clean in six weeks. “We will be picking two players at random throughout the tournament. Players who were tested negative could be tested again.” Meanwhile, Labasa Football secretary Varun Anand said his players were tested negative.

“When the article came out about two players being tested positive, we were getting calls from concerned fans wanting to know if the two players were from Labasa,” Anand said.

“I know my players do not use drugs and I want the fans not to panic. I also want to thank Fiji Football for taking charge by including anti-doping in the tournament. “I think it is a good idea and I am all for it and I am really happy that my players came out negative.” The Vodafone Fiji FACT continues today at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.
