Top 14 Rugby Live On FBC TV
The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation will televise the Top 14 rugby competition in France on its free to air channel (FBC TV) from August, this year to June, next year.
FBC chief executive officer Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said they have signed a two-year deal.
“We are very proud to secure the rights and we will get to pick the best Top 14 games of the week. We will show it live and this will start from August this year and end in June next year and we will have another season after that,” SayedKhaiyum said.
“This will entail live 31 matches from each season including two play-off matches, semi-finals as well as the final” Sayed-Khaiyum said securing rights will also incur huge delivery cost for the company.
“It is going to cost us and what a lot of people will need to realise is that getting the rights for the major tournament or major sporting event is not only about paying for the rights but paying for the delivery as well.
“The main reason why we have been very interested for this tournament is because Top 14 has the biggest number of Fijians playing in any one overseas tournament. And we have some amazing 125 players from Fiji who are part of the competition,” he added. Meanwhile, FBC will also be showing the International Cricket Council (ICC) Championships Trophy which is the World Cup 20/20 cricket which starts in June
“So as a result of each match of about four hours long we do not want to disturb our schedule putting aside the rights of the sponsors of the daily programmes. We will now present the highlights of each game in the next day at 10:30am and again at 9:15pm while the final game will be played live” Sayed-Khaiyum said.
