University student Jane Prasad’s coming over to participate in the Miss World Fiji contest this week will not be in vain.

Ms Prasad, 23, came over from Auckland, New Zealand, where she has been living for the last nine years.

“I am excited and raring to take a shot at the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ pageant title,” Ms Prasad said. With maternal links from Wainibuka in Tailevu, Ms Prasad entered the contest after following up on a text from a cousin in Fiji regarding the Miss Fiji auditions early this year.

“When my cousin texted about Miss Fiji auditions, I thought it would be a great platform,” she said.

She admitted that the major challenge she faced was balancing her studies with the pageant.

Ms Prasad is doing long distance studies so that she is not left behind when she returns home.

“This is the first time for someone from my family to be doing something like this and I am excited.

“So far the pageant has been awesome and this final lap is really exciting.

“I am really excited as this is the last week of preparation. I would be humbled to represent Fiji.” She is one of the 14 finalists in this year’s Miss World Fiji contest. Ms Prasad is currently studying for her Bachelor of Health Science in Psychology at Massey University in Auckland New Zealand.
