NEW FACILITIES BOOST NAYAWA RESIDENTS
Another successful project has been completed to upgrade sporting facilities and amenities to the people of Sigatoka.
Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala officially opened the Nayawa Multipurpose court in Sigatoka yesterday. He said in the past there was a concentration of such facilities across Fiji.
“This is part of an ongoing initiative under the FijiFirst Government to provide such facilities across Fiji,” Bala said.
“The FijiFirst Government is committed to equal opportunities, equal facilities and equality in development for all Fijians in all districts.” The Minister has urged all the people of the province to make good use the facilities which will be available to everyone.
“This provides additional training and competition facilities for the athletes, that the district of Sigatoka and the larger province of Nadroga Navosa is famous for,” he added.
“Hopeful this will enable new generations of famous netballers, basketball and volleyball players from this province to fly respective district, provincial and National colours.
He added this was part of an ongoing systemic and structures programme to improve existing facilities.
Businessman Natwar Singh applauded the initiatives made for the wellbeing of the people.
“This is a great investment as the town does not have a facility.
“This will boost the people of the province to engage in sporting events,” he said.
The project was funded by the FijiFirst Government through the Ministry of Local government at a total cost of $120, 000.
The new multipurpose court has a basketball, netball and two volleyball courts. There is also a provision for lawn tennis as per demand.
