Vehicle makes appearance in Nausori Village, delights villagers, especially children

School children and villagers in the Nausori Highlands probably got to do what many children in our urban centres would have wished.

That is a close up photo with the RFMF’s new Bushmaster vehicles and soldiers on Tuesday. The soldiers from the RFMF’s peacekeeping school, Blackrock, in Votualevu, Nadi, were conducting pre-deployment training for soldiers earmarked for deployment to the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

After a three-day live firing exercise in the Nausori Highlands, the soldiers stopped and interacted with the villagers at Nausori Village. Lieutenant-Colonel Pacolo Luveni, director of Peace Support Operations, acceded to a request from the villagers to see first-hand what the Bushmaster vehicles were all about.

He said they could not have refused such a request, because as he put it, ‘the vehicles belonged to the people of Fiji’.

“Given that these vehicles will be used for Middle East deployment training and during natural disaster relief, transporting medical teams, equipment, and food and water to affected people, it is important that the citizens of Fiji are aware of what the Bushmasters can provide.

“The smiles and joy on the faces of the villagers were evident and the soldiers were honoured to be present to show the vehicles to the villages,” Lieutenant-Colonel Luveni said.

The RFMF were conducting live round firing in a display for a team from the United Nations and the US State Department.
