Water tanks donated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be directed to Koro Island. As people on the island continue to rebuild after Tropical Cyclone the 14 10,000-litre water tanks will be a big relief for the islanders because it will facilitate water access for the villagers.

While receiving the water tanks yesterday, Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management Joeli Cawaki said these tanks were directed to Koro Island because it was needed there.

“Koro was one of the most devastated places in Fiji and this will assist the Islanders enormously,” Mr Cawaki said.

He thanked the church for their donation and said they were supportive of the efforts of the Government to help rebuild the lives of the islanders. “Government is trying its best to build houses and giving out portable chainsaws and equipment to allow people to cut down logs for timber to use in rebuilding homes,” he said. While speaking at the handover ceremony, Kamoe Varea, the Suva-Fiji stake president of the LDS Church said the charity arm of the church made the donation possible.

Mr Varea said: “I pray and hope that the water tanks that we have presented will ease their life and burdens and that they will be able to have fresh water after the cyclone that devastated the island of Koro.”

Mr Cawaki said any assistance would help rebuild the lives of the islanders back to normal.
