During the grant signing at a capacity building workshop recently, the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation executive, Ambalika Devi, posed a challenge to club members present to grow the $2500 to $25,000.

She shared project successes from other projects in various provinces and how some of them were raising good revenue from income-generating projects.

The Vodafone World of Difference team also shared how inspiring stories from other clubs and individuals had the power to motivate others.

“We do not have to reinvent the wheel,” said Roneet Prasad, project officer capacity building and story telling network.

“We just have to share our experience and stories and it’s easier to take on projects from there where we can restrategise challenges and embed lessons learnt and best practices from one project to another.”

Ms Devi said: “We need to start saving before we can do good business.”

Financial literacy and business tips were also shared at the workshop.

Tevita Nakaba, provincial youth administrator, Ra, said: “We will help youth clubs with projects and we will come around to monitor and evaluate the projects ensuring that it’s implemented according to plan.”

The turaga ni koro from Bucalevu Village, Epeli Sasau, thanked the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation team for coming forward to provide support; ensuring this builds the capacities of youth in the province of Ra.

He said: “We are impressed with the holistic sharing and how we have a challenge ahead to generate revenue and look after our communities’ health and well-being.” Ms Devi said: “The onus is now on the clubs to grow and sustain their income generation projects.”

“The Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation has so far assisted over 300 clubs around the country.

“It continues to strengthen the women and youth clubs through capacity building and social media workshops,” she said.
