Fiji Car Club Renews Lease With Nanuku
Next drags set for July 16
The Fiji Car Club has successfully renegotiated their lease agreement with the Nanuku Auberge Resort owners for the use of Nanuku Aerodrome for racing.
Fiji Car Club president, Raizal Haniff, has confirmed this agreement will be for two years. And he stressed that these two years will give the club sufficient time to secure a piece of land and build a race track of its own.
“We are happy that we will be able to continue organising racing events for our members whilst we secure our own land to build a race track on in the coming years,” Haniff said.
“I am very grateful to Jeff Larsen and the entire management of Nanuku Resort for having the faith and confidence in the current executives of FCC to renew the lease agreement.
“It just shows Nanuku Resort’s commitment in developing motor sports in Fiji.” Over the past few years, the Nanuku Aerodrome’s usage for aircraft landing and taking off purposes has increased significantly by the resort.
Passengers for outer island resorts in the Central Division are being flown in on private aircraft for transfers from the Nanuku Aerodrome.
Despite this challenge, the resort keeping its commitment to the growing motor sports industry in Fiji has renewed the lease agreement.
Haniff said: “In recognition of this, we sincerely appreciate the resort for allowing us to continue leasing the airstrip for racing purposes.” More good news has followed from the Car Club whereby July 16 has been set as the date for the next quarter mile drag race which will be the first event for the year. Haniff said: “We last held our race in November of last year, when the Fiji Car Club was at its peak.
“In March we had our annual general meeting and following my re-election as the president, I had promised members that we will race again this year.
“And I have kept my word. I would like to thank all members who had supported me and had believed in me and my executive team.”
Haniff further indicated the car club is hoping to have at least five races before the end of the year.
“We know we are behind our race schedule which normal starts in April, but we will work hard to make sure to have at least five race events this year.”
