Jethro Lockington of Fiji managed to secure a silver medal in the men’s Under-18 long jump event during Oceania Athletics Championship at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday. Christopher Goodwin of New Zealand scooped gold with a leap of 7.03m followed by Lockington’s 6.8m while Jonah Harris of Nauru covered a distance of 6.58m.

The 18-year-old Natabua High School student was glad to settle with a silver to brush away his disappointment of being disqualified during the Coca-Cola Games.

“It feels great to win another silver medal in the under-18 men’s grade as I had won silver last year during the Melanesian Games. I was a bit disheartened after I was disqualified during the Cokes this year but I’m happy that my performance here is better than the Cokes.

“I would like to thank everyone that supported me throughout my preparation for the championship, especially my father.”
