New Medical Services at Lautoka Hospital
People in the Western Division can now expect better medical services at the Lautoka Hospital following the opening of two special facilities on Friday.
The new emergency department and operating theatre were officially opened by the Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar.
The $12.7 million project included infrastructure upgrading, emergency department and operating theatres.
“I am confident that the new facilities here at the hospital will improve the quality of service and infrastructure for patients and staff in immediate future and of course in years to come,” Ms Akbar said:
“This is a milestone for Ministry of Health and Medical Services and a fulfilment of a promise to the people of Lautoka and the West and surrounding areas. Indeed an occasion worth celebrating,” she said. “I would like to thank the staff members of Lautoka Hospital, medical superintendent, contractors and all those who have assisted in the completion of this wonderful structure,” she said.
Ms Akbar said that the new services were the second design and building project the Ministry of Health and Medical Services had built. “Similar work was done for the extension of Colonial War Memorial (CWM) Hospital in Suva which is now fully operational.
“Building infrastructure capacity is important but we must integrate care and design in our health care facilities to improve our service to the needs of our patients.
“I am glad to say that this new emergency department and operating theatre have been planned with such needs in mind,” she said.
