Overseas Opponent For Singh: Khan
New Zealand-based referee Faiyaz Khan believes Sebastian ‘Sniper’ Singh needs an overseas opponent. He made the comment after Singh knocked out Junior Farzan ‘Razor’ Ali in round one in the feature fight of the Canada Fiji Southern Boxing Promotions at Prince Charles Park, Nadi on Friday night.
Khan said he thought the fight would last the distance.
He said Ali was stunned by the power punching of Singh.
The referee said Singh was dominant and confident from the start and gave no chance for Ali to recover.
“That is boxing. It doesn’t matter how good a boxer you are, if a shot connects, you will go down,” Khan said.
“And that was what happened as Sebastian was on a mission.
“You could see his intention and how he came out firing not giving the more experienced Farzan an inch.
“I knew when Farzan went down that he could have problems continuing.” Khan said Singh has a bright future and he should try to engage more fights abroad to gain more experience.
“He needs a quality boxer as he is young and there is no one in Fiji that can match him.”
Boxing Commission Fiji board member Usman Ali said the promotion was a success with a good turnout.
“This is a testament that the revival of the sport is on track.”
He added the programme has set a benchmark to the rest of the promoters.
