The Rewa rugby side edged out Cakaudrove 23-19 in the final round of the Vodafone Vanua Championsh­ip clash at Ratu Ganilau Park, Savusavu yesterday

Cakaudrove kept on attacking the visitors as they focused on dismantlin­g their defence. In the 20th minute Koroi Yavala missed a penalty. The visitors hit the front through Usaia Vakabeqalo’s penalty. Cakadrove levelled the scores when Yavala was successful with his second penalty.

In the 33th minute Rewa scored a try through Mario Matakibau with Vakabeqalo making it 10-3. He later extended Rewa’s lead with another penalty before Cakaudrove scored a try and Yavala’s penalty brought the scores closer.

Cakaudrove 11- 13 Rewa.

In the second half Yavala made it 14-13 with another penalty. Rewa then replied with a try to lock Apenisa Deve with Vakabeqalo’s conversion making it 20 -14. In the 46th minute saw Yavala unconverte­d penalty. In the 50th the visitors could not handle the pressure that was given by the home boys.

In the final saw Cakaudrove winger Peceli Vovovalavo scored a try which was not converted making it 20-19 before Rewa’s Mosese Rokociri replied with a snap drop goal.

Cakaudrove coach Rayne Simpson said: “I’m pleased with the boy’s performanc­e.”

Rewa coach Ro Alifereti Doviverata said: “We’ve already informed boys to expect a tough match against Cakaudrove. We now prepare to meet the winner from the West next week.”
