Three Dilkusha Methodist High School students have been praised for their heroic act in helping Police arrest a suspect.

School principal Satyendra Singh commended Elizabeth Sivowale, Loraini Sauturaga and Vilisi Sauturaga for their courageous attitude in assisting a primary school student in distress.

The minor went to the girls crying and complained she had been allegedly abused sexually in a bus.

“I had acknowledged my three senior girls in front of 650 students for their vigilance and bravery. We teach all our students here to be alert just in case something like this comes up,” a proud-looking Mr Singh said yesterday.

Mr Singh said initiatives such as the Crime Stoppers’ Scholastic programme created an environment of confidence that helped decrease crimes perpetrated against minors. “We encourage students to report any incident they might see or experience. We need our students to be confident to prevent these crimes from existing,” he said. “These girls are one of our success stories, but we need more students to come forward confidently to build momentum.”

Ms Sivowale said her parents thanked her for her action. All three girls were overwhelmed by the attention and were shy to comment on the “hero” tag. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the accused had been charged and produced in court for one count of indecent assault. She said the accused was on bail.
