Leadership should be based on the teachings of the church: Dr Luveni

- CHARLES CHAMBERS Edited by Ranoba Baoa

The type of leadership by the chiefs of the province should be based on the teachings of the church. Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni made the comment while opening the Bose ni Yasana o Ba at the Returned Soldiers League Club in Lautoka yesterday.

“As Christians, when we uphold the church and its teachings, it reflects on the people and the Government,” Dr Luveni said. She said the general elections would be held next year and whoever is elected would depend on the people.

She asked the people to make the right choices when electing someone. “People must be guided on who they elect into Parliament as these people will lead the country over the next four years,” she said. Dr Luveni added that Parliament did not belong to politicians who were elected but rather it belonged to every Fijian.

Speaking to chiefs and representatives of the province, Dr Luveni said she wanted the message of Parliament and what happened there disseminated to the people.

“We want to bring parliament closer to the people.

“Parliament does not belong to the politicians but rather it belongs to the people. Dr Luveni said they are in the process of visiting schools and villages throughout Fiji to enlighten Fijians on what happened in Parliament.
