- PENI DRAUNA Edited by Rusiate Mataika

Year 12 Holy Family Secondary School pupil Karalaini Seru will be highlighting teenage pregnancy as her message at the Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival.

The weeklong carnival will be opened at the Damodar City site in Labasa on Saturday.

The 18-year-old Vuna native said there was a need to educate girls living in rural areas to be aware of what they would face when moving to urban areas. “This is where females from the rural communities move to urban areas to further their education or look for jobs or for the bright lights,” Ms Seru said. She said this was one of the reasons for the increase and the fact that most of these teenagers lack the knowledge of safe sex. “This is a concern should be introduced to deal with the needs of young girls and to educate them on things they are not aware of,” Ms Seru said.

She said she would discuss these issues with youths and especially young mothers adding it contributed to the rise in poverty living. Ms Seru is one of the five beautiful lasses vying for the title at the crowning on August 5. from QuestionsMs Seru: and answers
