Singer Poornima Back After 20 Years
The singer of ‘Chane Ke Khet Main’ danced by Madhuri Dixit in the movie Anjaam will be performing here this weekend.
Poornima Shrestha is here to perform her best songs for the people of Fiji under the Fiji Poornima Shrestha Live in Concert. Also known as Sushma Shrestha, she is a noted Bollywood playback singer who has sung many super hit songs in the Indian music industry.
She started her career as a child singer in Ramesh Sippy’s 1971 film Andaz.
In that film, she sang under the music direction of Shankar Jaikishan the song “Hai Na Bolo Bolo” along with Mohammed Rafi, Suman Kalyanpur and Pratibha. The song went on to become a hit.
Ms Shrestha has sung other popular numbers like “Channe Ke Khet Main” from Anjaam in 1994.
Speaking to the Fiji Sun
Ms Shrestha said:
“I am in Fiji after 20 years.
“This is my third time performing in Fiji. The first time was 20 years back, when I came to participate in the Bobby Night and then I had come with Anupam Kher in my second trip.
“One of the things I love about this country is Fiji’s warmth it was still there with me when I returned after such a long time.
“I will have three concerts in Fiji that I will be performing solo with my best musician band from Mumbai, India, along with the stand-up comedian Rajiv Goldy who had performed in Comedy Superstar, Laughter Da Master and Comedy Circus.
“For the people of Fiji, I will give my best. We expect and hope that we have a huge turnout.
“I don’t know how soon I will come back again but I want all Fijians to come and enjoy the comedy and musical night.
“I have been singing from the 90’s and I believe that my songs have the zest, the power and fun elements that could match any of the songs that the younger generations hear today.
“My song does not sound too old but still have the fun elements for everyone to enjoy. “The show will be fun and I will be performing some of the songs that are most popular and on the audience requests as well.”
Trivision Entertainment New Zealand on Wednesday, and Fiji Promoter Dharmend Shyam said he had selected one of the best singers from Bollywood.
“We know that people will love to hear her perform live.” Mr Shyam said. “Poornima is not only about singing but she also goes into the crowd and makes everyone dance along with her too.
“We expect a huge turnout from the public and we know that everyone will enjoy her songs and the show.”
