St John’s College Under-18 first-five eight Gideon Colanatawake dives over to score the final try against Nasinu Secondary School in the Coke Zero Deans Trophy quarterfinal match at the ANZ Stadium, Suva, on July 29, 2017. St John’s scored an upset 20-6 win to book the first semifinal showdown against Queen Victoria School next weekend. Ratu Kadavulevu School will take on Cuvu College in the second semifinal match.

Marist Brothers High School have booked a spot in the Under-14 semifinal of the Coke Zero Deans Trophy after beating Lelean Memorial School 19-7 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

MBHS U14 team manager Georgina Batisaresare was overwhelmed with their team’s performance and hope they would continue on to the semifinals.

“Today, the boys played very well and they followed most of the set pieces that we were training them through during our preparations before the Deans national quarterfinals,” Batisaresare said. “They were some mistakes made by the team but they managed to come back as a team and improve on those drawbacks. I am really proud of their achievement. Actually in the game of rugby any team can win and it can be an unexpected outcome and so was for the boys. However, we will now go back and regroup and try to win the semifinal against Queen Victoria School as we aim to take one game at a time.

“Also, we will go back and improve on the key areas that was identified from this match and prove ourselves again next week. I would like to thank all our supporters, parents and ex-scholars for their neverending support as we want to continue with the same winning momentum.”

Meanwhile, Suva Grammar have already qualified as Southern Zone champions. Ratu Kadavulevu School pipped Nasinu Secondary School 16-15 while Queen Victoria School thrashed Ratu Sukuna Memorial School 35-0.

In the semifinals next Saturday see Suva Grammar School take on Ratu Kadavulevu School while in the second semifinal features Queen Victoria School and Marist Brothers High School.
